Understand these numbers

Income is split into tax brackets: a higher bracket applies only to income within that bracket. CPP/QPP and EI have separate contribution rules. A raise therefore changes gross pay and net pay by different amounts.

2026 estimate: assumptions, exclusions and official sources

Full-year salaried employee aged 18–64, one employer, ordinary pensionable and insurable employment income, basic personal credits only. Annual rates are used, including the 2026 BC, Newfoundland and Labrador and PEI changes. This is an annualized estimate, so July catch-up withholding is not reproduced. Enhanced CPP/QPP contributions reduce modelled taxable income. Québec includes its federal abatement and worker deduction. Ontario includes surtax and health premium; BC includes the basic tax reduction.

Excludes income-tested provincial reductions other than BC and Ontario, refundable credits, northern deductions, territorial payroll taxes, RRSP deductions, union dues, benefits, workplace pension deductions and other household circumstances. Estimates can overstate tax at lower incomes. Province of residence and employment are assumed identical. Verify actual payroll through CRA PDOC or Revenu Québec WebRAS.

Rule year: 2026. Reviewed 2026-09-19. Recheck official rules before using a later tax year.
