A TFSA generally does not provide a contribution deduction, while qualifying withdrawals are generally tax-free. RRSP contributions may be deductible within personal room, with withdrawals generally taxable. Those broad features do not determine which account a person should select.
An annual dollar limit is not the same as personal contribution room. Past activity, income, residency and pension adjustments can matter. Official records and a person’s own transaction records help establish the actual situation.
